My son is Type 1 and I am a new Type 2 diabetic. We have tried lots of meters. Unfortunately, the one they sent home from Vanderbilt takes 1 micron! This one only takes .3 and believe me, you can tell the diff. We both use the Multiclix lancet device on 1 setting to get enough blood for this meter. Renew lancet is also great. These both have cartridges so you never touch a lancet and they are practically pain free. Not sure what previous poster was talking about, as this meter automatically detects when it has enough blood and beeps, then starts processing it. No need to see how much it takes, which is almost nothing. It has a neat test strip light, which we have utilized a LOT. Middle of the night, theater, concerts. You name it, we have been thankful many times for this great feature. We have even used it to find other things in the dark ;) It is really small too, so no big bulky meter. This is a great price too. We paid $40 for ours new just 6 months ago! See more

My mother was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. We were nervous about her daily testing, but This meter makes everything so easy we recommend this 100%. No coding needs to be done, the meter turns on automatically when the test strip is inserted and the best part is it takes such a tiny amount of blood its amazing.

Took a little time to get used to the strips, but bar far the best one! Uses very little blood and the thing really gives you some time to get the blood to the strip. The others seem like after 10 seconds of inactivity you gotta use a new strip! Out of the 100 strip package, i didnt have a single error. TrueDraw brand and I threw away quite a few from not being fast enough...not to mention the coding...NO CODING REQUIRED ON THE FREESTYLE LITE!

I have used a few different meters over the years. I decided to try this FreeStyle Lite meter because of its size and simplicity. If you must check your blood sugar, this is the meter to use!!! I have been using it for well over a year now. It is small, fitting in the palm of my hand easily. The display is nice and big for my aging eyes. Its not fancy with a lot of options, but does the job and holds a lot of readings if you need to go back and check. I also use the FreeStyle Lite lancets and use the #1 setting on the tip of my finger. It really takes a very tiny amount of blood... smaller than any other meter I have ever used. Its really nice not having to worry if I have enough blood for the sample. I have used meters in the past that ruined a strip if the blood sample wasnt enough. Once I have a tiny amount of blood, I put the meter up to my finger (with the test strip inserted) and put the little point of the strip to the blood. The blood is drawn onto the strip. The meter will beep indicating the sample was received. Once the meter beeps, the number will display within 5-10 seconds, and more beeps will indicate the test is complete. Simple!! I really enjoy not having sore fingers. With past meters, I needed more blood, so had to stick deeper, or multiple times to get enough. OUCH! I do not like needles the way it is. The only drawback to this meter is the price of the strips. They really are way too high. I have been tempted to try the ReliOn meter and strips to see how I liked it as they seem much cheaper.
