Normally, a muscular valve at the end of esophagus keeps the acid in the stomach. When heartburn occurs the valve relaxes too often causing acid to reflux. Common symptoms are: Bitter or sour taste Uncomfortable burning feeling or pressure behind the chest that moves toward the neck and throat Symptoms often occur after meals Who gets heartburn?
